Witham Town Mayor & Deputy Mayor
The Town Mayor is considered the 'First Among Equals', sits as Chair of the Council and presides at each meeting of the Full Council. Each year, a new Mayor is elected by the members of the Town Council at the Annual Meeting.

The Mayor is a statutory, unpaid position and does not hold executive powers to direct the Council. The Town Mayor instead represents Witham across the civic life of Essex, raising awareness for local causes and promotes the numerous charities, businesses and voluntary groups that keep Witham moving and working.
The Mayor for the Civic Year 2026-2027 is Councillor Paul Heath. Councillor Heath is supported this year by Deputy Mayor Councillor Jack Coleman. The Civic Year runs from the first week of May.
The Mayor’s chosen charity for the year will be Alzheimer's Society.

Mayoral Events & Engagements
Incumbent Mayors choose charities that they wish to support and raise funds for during their time in the role. This year the Mayor has chosen Alzheimer's Society as his charity.
The Mayor also attends a number of events and engagements during their year in the role.
During his 2025-26 term, Councillor Paul Heath attended over 140 engagements. These included supporting local groups such as Witham Wombles and Soccability, visiting schools for events like the careers day at Howbridge Junior School and Southview for the SEND event, attending events including the multi-choir Concert for Peace and the Medieval Fayre, performing openings like the 3G artificial pitch in Spinks Lane, joining celebrations for important dates such as Eid and Diwali and enjoying tea parties including those at Moorfield Court and the Veterans Coffee Morning.
The Mayor continues to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society during his 2026-27 term.
