Wings for Victory Week
Wings for Victory Week - Official Programme
Wings For Victory Week was an initiative during WWII for communities to raise funds to sponsor planes. Each of the branches of the Armed Forces had their own version. In this case, each county was given it's own target, and the event as a whole raised almost £616M countrywide, equivalent to £33.6B today.
In Witham, the week-long programme of events included parades throughout Witham, Rivenhall and Silver End, dances, a whist drive, flying displays by the RAF and a baseball match.
Whilst we cannot find a record of the amount raised, the programme sets a target of £60,000 for 3 Boston Bombers.
