Bank Letter
Subscription to 'Truth' magazine
In amongst the correspondence found in 61 Newland Street during it's conversion to Witham Town Hall, there is this letter addressed to A.S. Allshorn. It is dated 8th April 1925, and Mr Allshorn was the bank manager of Barclays Bank at that time.
The letter is an attempt to sell Mr Allshorn a subscription to 'Truth' magazine, which was apparently a popular read amongst bank managers who were 'regular and appreciative readers'. The magazine claimed to assist bank managers by 'backing up their own efforts to protect customers from the depredations of financial sharks'.
