The Christmas Events Group was set up in 2005 by Witham Town Council to take in hand the development of the Christmas Lights in the Town centre. The Group consists of representatives from Witham Lions & Lioness Clubs; Witham Chamber of Commerce; Witham Rotary Club, The 41 Club and Witham Carnival Association.
In the first year, the Group set about contacting licensed suppliers of Christmas street lighting systems. The next step was to invite quotations from three of these companies to present before Council for budget approval.
Upon being given the go-ahead from council the lighting layout was decided upon and the order placed with the selected supplier. Each year a competition is held for the best decorated premises in the town centre based on the theme selected for that year. There is trophy for the winner, the Val Lewis Memorial shield donated by Witham Lions.
Our aim is to improve the displays each year and to try and raise funds to augment the Town Council budget allocation. We also aim to give the residents of Witham a display to be proud of in future years.
