COUNCILLOR BIOGRAPHIES

COUNCILLOR PHIL BARLOW

I have lived in Witham for over 30 years and been a Town Councillor for 18. I have been Town Mayor twice and have an abiding interest in trying to reflect the views of the Witham's residents on issues that affect them. I am is particularly concerned with confronting and reducing nuisance anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the Town.

I serve on the Environment and Resourses Committee and also serves on the Planning Applications Sub-Committee. I am the Town Council representative on the Town Luncheon Club, and a trustee on the Witham Ambulance Trust.

COUNCILLOR MRS PATRICA ANN BRUNTON

I was born in Battersea, London and came to Witham in 1970, when I married Nelson Brunton. My husband and I both support all things Natural, Organic, Non-Violence and issues "GREEN". I run the Natural Healing Centre and am involved in "Roots of Culture Foundation".

I believe Free Trade is not Fair Trade and the underdogs are always taken advantage of in all Societies.

I am currently serving as a Green Councillor for Witham South and serve on Community Committee and Planning Applications Sub-Committee.

COUNCILLOR BARRY FLEET

I have lived in Witham since 1984, and am now the longest serving Town Councillor, having been elected in 1987. I am a former Town Mayor.

I have always been extremely concerned about conservation and planning issues. I am a Member of the River Walk Working Group as well as being a Member of the Community Committee.

I am a Liberal Democrat representing the Chipping Hill and Central Ward.

Outside of the Council, I am Chairman of Witham Housing Association and Chairman of the Witham in Bloom Conservation Group.

COUNCILLOR JOHN GOODMAN

Although originally hailing from London's East End, I have lived in Essex since 1954 when, at the age of 8 years, I moved with my parents to Southend-on-Sea. I spent my schooling and formative years in Southend until I married my wife, Geraldine, in 1970 and moved, firstly to Chelmsford and then, in 1977, to Witham.

Thus, I have now lived in this town for 33 years and over that period of time I have seen Witham expand from its roots as a market town to encompass the ever-increasing needs of modernity in an environment which serves a community reliant not only on local services but also those further afield.

I commuted to the City of London until 1998 when I took early retirement from a career in international banking which spanned 36 years and bearing in mind that a number of residents of this town are commuters, I am keen to ensure that Witham has, and maintains a satisfactory infrastructure to support those who wish to commute either by car or by public transport.

Having taken early retirement, I have since been employed on a part-time basis with Essex Police in an administrative role and, as a result, I also take an extreme interest in making sure that Witham remains a safe environment in which to work and spend time at leisure.

I have been a supporter or member of the Conservative Party since joining Southend Young Conservatives in 1964 and, following in the footsteps of my late mother, I because a regular campaigner for Sir Stephen McAdden who held the Southend East parliamentary seat for a number of years.

However, it was not until October 2008 that I felt it appropriate to take a more active role in local politics and I was pleased, therefore, to be duly elected as Town Councillor for Witham West ward. I have been appointed to the Community and Environment Committees within Witham Town Council and, moreover, as a Council representative on both the Witham in Bloom Conservation Group and the Braintree Associated of Local Councils Executive.

Aside from politics, I have a number of interests including classic motoring and aviation, cricket - I am a member at Essex County Cricket Club - and an eclectic taste in music.

Having been elected to Witham Town Council, I hope that I shall be able to serve all residents of the town wherever, and whenever, necessary.

COUNCILLOR STEVE HICKS

I have lived in Witham for over 20 years, I am self employed, run a successful property lease business and teach people to drive. I have been married for 30 years, have no children of my own but as an adult I remember the needs of children and young adults from when I was younger, am now myself 50 years young.

I enjoy the company of people from all ages, hence my reason for wanting to be more involved in the community, as an "unpaid volunteer" Town Councillor now in my seventh year I have been involved in many committees.

Now in my second term I have taken on the role of Chair of Environment Committee, and also serve on the Community and Resources and Committees. I also sit on the River Walk and Whetmead Management Working Group and the Playground Working Party. I am involved with the Joint Traffic Management Liaison Group and the Witham Park Group. As I really do like to keep my ear to the ground I do my very best to attend all committee meetings.

Also, as a volunteer I am the Community/Link School Governor at Powers Hall Infant School, which I thoroughly enjoy being part of, and as a "lone" Town Councillor I fought a silent battle to ensure the building of the new children's centre at the rear of Powers Hall Infant School, the alternative being the sale of land for more housing.

My aims for the wonderful Town of Witham are to ensure we have everything coming to us that we are entitle to from government funds and with the knowledgeable staff we have at the Town Hall that is a strong possibility due to the team work that pulls us all together.

COUNCILLOR STEPHEN LAMBOURNE

I have lived in Witham since 2002, with a background covering property development to stage management where I worked with some of the world's most famous names for over eight years, presently a self employed cab driver, my interest cover all aspects of the media, a prolific writer and owner of two companies, one a film company the other a script development company.

I serve on the Community and Environment Committee. I am also a member of the Planning Application Sub-Committee. I am the Town Council's representative on the Witham in Bloom Conservation Group, and the Citizenz Advice Bureau.

COUNCILLOR MICHAEL LAGER

My wife and I settled in Witham in 1969 and our family grew up here, just when the town was settling down after a period of rapid growth. I worked until 2000 in various capacities in accountancy and finance, but found time to become a Conservative Councillor on Braintree District Council in 1976. I was elected to Witham Town Council in 1995, and in 2005 to Essex County Council.

I represent Witham Chipping Hill and Central Ward on Braintree District Council where I serve as Cabinet Member for Efficiency and Resources. I also represent the Witham Northern division on Essex County Council where I chair the Audit Committee and serve on a number of other committees

I am particularly concerned to see that the Town Council speaks up for people in the town and ensures that it is a safe and attractive place, with a good range of things to do".

COUNCILLOR MRS PATRICIA LEE

I have lived in Essex for more than thirty years and in Witham since 2005. This year I was elected to serve on Witham Town Council representing Witham South Ward as a Conservative Member. As the Town Mayor I sit on all Committees.

My main interest apart from politics is drama. I am a founder member of Chelmsford Theatre Workshop; a member of Little Baddow Drama Club and a founder member of the newly formed drama group "The Cameo Plays".

COUNCILLOR WAYNE TEARLE

I have lived in Witham for 33 years and have been a Town Councillor for seven years. My passion for politics is to do what is right for the community. I have a sound interest in policing, environment and transport issues. As a Witham Town Councillor I feel that we should have effective policing in our streets, to have an environment with clean air and concern for climate change. Workingas a railway station controller I feel that good public transport is important.

I serve on the Community Committee, Environment Committee and Planning Applications Sub-Committee. If you feel that you need to discuss anything on these issues, I would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your attention.
